Hi foks ,

Today I put a deposit on a 2000 W reg Laguna 1.6 RT with only 49000 on the clock and a full history. The interior is unmarked and the body is dent free but has a number of chips and scratches consisitent with a 7 year old car. Nothing major and a few will buff out. The car drives like new. Really tight with no knocks or rattles at all.

My only concern, having browsed this forum, is the fact there is only one key fro the car and they seem to be rather expensive!!!

What I want to know is , If I get another Renault key of the same style can the blade be replaced and the electronics re-programmed?

I work in a police office and there's a big box of keys which have been handed in and never claimed. There's keys fro every type of car imaginable so I'm sure I'll find a Renault one.

Thanks in advance for your advice.

I think you'll need to have a new key programmed, but this need not be too expensive.Try a local autolock specialist as many of these can programme new keys.I'm 99% sure that used keys can't be reprogrammed, but if you search for a local specialist and talk to them directly they will be able to tel you for sure.

Good luck and let us know the outcome.:)

The reason I asked is that on ebay there are numerous used keys for sale at up to a fiver each and you can buy blank blades to cut and fit in the key body. A bit pointless if they couldn't be re-programmed.
