never had this problem before mate but any problem with an auto box i would advise getting the automatic gearbox oil replaced or at least checked for level and how bad the oil is.Not a big gearbox specailist but i know that 9/10 auto box problems are fixed by a gearbox oil change/top

Having similar problem with my Espace. Have also learn't the hard way not to go to Renault dealer for diagnostics!
Mine has been tripping out into 'limp' mode every now and again. This gives you one forward gear and reverse.
Renault dealer dianostic came up with a fault in pressure regulation and they immediately quoted over 2 grand for a new box.
Local independant auto transmission specialist charged me £20 for a diagnostic, had the car for an hour and told me the front piston has gone and will be £700 repair or a grand to take out box and recondition it.
Obviously, for you this is worst case scenario as other possibilities could be the pressure pad which is £150 fix or a solenoid which is about £400.
I don't know about you but I'm thinking of getting a bus from now on.

Hi when you get your diagnostic test done it will tell them whats wrong and what temperature the box is running at and if there is enough oil in it or not.I will have my fingers xxx for you keep us informed all information on the likes of this is valuable to the forum i was told by Renault last week that there is no service interval on a dpu auto box you only need to change the oil if its contaminated or the box has had major surgery done to it.

update

Thanks for the replys sorry its been so long work shifts so first chance lve had to reply.Had the diagnostics done today was told faults are oil pressure ,hydraulic level and solenoids and that the jumping in to drive was probably a seal problem becuse have to rev engine(to build pressure ) to force into drive .So what he called a soft build (£800) + solenoids (he would have to check price ) +labour but could need recon box talkin over £1000.Which is money l havent got.So i'm probably going to have to sell for spares or repair which is a real shame cos l really like it(unless l win the lotto tonight lol
