Battery Charging Fault

(probably broke down with a dead battery on the side of the road)

personally i would have stripped down the battery connector and cables then swapped the alternator for one off a scrapper and swapped out the battery with a known good one. if that didnt fix it then there's a broken cable somewhere in the engine bay loom.

the most likely cause is a failed diode in the alternator voltage regulator (inside the alternator), so it gives a partial voltage reading that would fool a junior renault mechanic (relying on a VEN diagnostic diagram and rubbish multimeter to fix a electrical fault within a module(alternator)) but not the full current required to recharge the battery.

(did that make any sense?)
