I had the timing belt changed on a Clio Oasis 1171cc 1993 yesterday at a garage

Early this morning , I became aware of the following :-

1.The exhaust sounds as if it is blowing ( at least I think the sound is coming from the exhaust )

2. There is a tapping sound coming from the engine

3. The engine seems to be turning over faster at idle

Being so soon after having the timing belt changed -
are the above just coincidence ?

What's actually involved , in changing the timing belt ?

Thanks

Hello and welcome to the forum.:)

If the job was done at a garage, then I'd get it back to them asap.It certaintly sounds like the belt could be a tooth out, which would cause all of the faults your describing.

The exhaust noise could also be the fact that the offside engine mounting has to be removed to be able to change the belt, and the engine is then moved up and down, which could have damaged the exhaust front pipe.

Let us know how you get on.:)

Thanks

The garage was not a big high street company , but rather a one man operation

Are they likely to accept that a defective belt was fitted , given that they would also need to remove it to see , which would mean labour costs to them ?

Same again re the exhaust - are they likely to accept that any damage was caused by them - How could I prove it ?
