Hello, can anyone help me with a faulty bonnet release catch on a Megane Scenic, Fidji, 16V, 2003.

The primary bonnet catch (cable operated) does not lock. The bonnet is being held closed by the secondary (manual) catch, however this will still be an MOT fail.

I can move the catch to it's closed position by pressing it with a screwdriver, and it returns to the open position when I stop pressing it. I don't know if is supposed to open without pulling the release lever (with bonnet open), but it does not seem to be 'hooking' the metal bar on the bonnet when it is closed.
Any ideas?

I'd have thought there would be a spring there to hold it in it's locked position, although wasn't there something on watchdog about renault bonnets popping open?

Thanks, your comment about the spring caused me to take a second look.
The spring actually holds the catch open - pushing the catch into the closed position stretches the spring, on letting it go it returns to the open position again. When the bonnet is closed the metal bar on the bonnet pushes the catch into the closed position and causes it to 'hook' over the bar, locking it in position. The catch wasn't 'hooking' the bar - I thought it might be worn.
I decided to bend the bar on the bonnet slightly with a pair of vice-grips so that it might align better with the catch. It worked, locking perfectly now!
