Ok i have a kenwood KDC-W4031 and i thought it was impossible to connect this stereo to a Laguna Control Stalk , but !!!! I have found these cables that apparantly will enable my stalk. But as i am not into car stereos as much as some i am not sure what i need, i think i need a particular cable and adapter but i am not sure. If someone could just check out this site (renault laguna fitting adapter link below) and point me in the right direction that would be great.

It looks like your car's right on the line between the two. It's going to be impossible to tell without more information.

Do you happen to know what kind of stereo was in there to start out with? My 95 RXE had a Blaupunkt, but my 98 RXE had an own brand one (possibly Cabasse, though that may have come later.) So if the car originally had a Blaupunkt unit then you probably need the first adapter. Otherwise, you probably need the second.

Failing that, you might need to ring the dealer and see if they'll tell you what model of stereo the car had from the VIN.

The site on your first post is the site I got the adapter for my LagII from... worked perfectly on my car, and comes as the complete set needed. However, not having tried on a LagI, I can't offer any more than that...

One thought - could the difference in the kits be down to phase 1 & phase 2 cars?

The phase 2 came out in mid to late 98. The very earliest examples were on a late R reg, with most being S and onwards. I got one shortly after release, and that was on an S plate. They must have changed the stereo while they were still producing the phase 1

The two part kit sounds like a universal system. Rather than create a lead for every possible combination of car and stereo, I'm guessing they create a lead for each car and a lead for each stereo, and let you connect the two together.

Stork !!!

Well, all sorted. After researching the cables with your assistance i popped to halfords and asked the guy if he had the appropriate cables and they did its basically a Main cable from Auto leads and then a adaptor. Total cost 35 sheets. Lets not forget that only 1 month ago a halfords rep told me "oh no that cant be done" "not with that stereo" more like "cant be arsed to try" Anyway this other rep had it in and installed within minutes and now i have full control of the stereo without having to buy a new one which i was close to doing.

Moral of the story "dont listen to halfords" do your own research, then go back to halfords and rub there noses in it when you know you can do it and they stock the parts. ;)
