Over the course of a week, both key fobs stopped working, replaced batteries no effect.

then a couple of saturdays ago, i went out to the car and the sound of loud clicking.

i was getting a red flashing light on the dashboard and the central locking was clicking in and out.

i disconnected the battery to stop it and go back the next day.

As soon as i connect the battery now, the central locking and flashing light occurs again, the car remains unlocked.

anybody had a similar problem

Hi and welcome to the forums.
I had a Simula problem with my scenic.
A new battery cured the clicking and all now works well.

thanks andy, indeed when i slaved the battery from my wifes car.

the 'card not detected' message went away after 10 minutes and we started the car

this battery is only a year old, so presumably we have a charging problem, alternator?
