Hi Everyone

This is my first post on here. Hope I've put it in the right place.
My 2006 Grand Scenic is giving a 'Clear Particle Filter' message. I've tried the advice given in other threads to drive for at least 20 minutes with high revs (60mph in 4th gear), but this did not solve the problem. I've been told by Renault dealers that a forced regeneration is needed (about £200) but this may not solve the problem either if the filter is badly blocked. In that case it would need to be replaced and this is very costly. I've read in another post that the filter could just be removed and not replaced but my Renault garage says this can't be done. Anyone any ideas?

Not too clued up on these darned particle filters but if you literally only did a 20 minute jaunt then I'd go for a longer 'blast' first before trying anything else!

Thanks for prompt response Scatz. Actually I did try a couple of longer runs (over an hour) after the initial one didn't work. Still no joy......

Try having a read of these to see if there are any answers. As I said, I'm not ofey with these filters so my knowledge is, well, non existent really!

Hello,

Have you tried having the clear particle filter message cleared using a Renault Clip diagnostics tester. It should go out on its own when you have given the car a decent blast at high revs to clear the filter, but if the message is still displayed I would get it cleared and see what happens. The filter may be fine. It could just be a faulty sensor causing the light to come on.

after a certain weight is recorded in the particle filter it will bring the light on , but then if a certain amount of regenerations fail , the it will not reset and will need a forced regeneration , which does not always work , i have only seen 2 fail but they were so blocked it was someone had put a towel in there.
you can only carry out a forced regeneration twice (according to renault)
and they have a service life of 120k miles.(renault recommended figure)
i have heard of people removing them , and filling gas an using an explosion to clear them. (that is not a recommendation ).
either way i think it will need a visit to your local renault garage or a renault specialist.
by the way , its heat thats starts the burn off so make sure you put it load when trying to reset on a journey.

Had the same problem with my Laguna. Took the car into a Renault dealer and asked for a report before any work carried out. Charged me £75 + vat and regenerated the filter. No lights, car fine.

Haree - "Renault Clip diagnostics tester"? Can I buy one of these or is it something they have in a Renault garage?

Kayaker - you got the filter regenerated for £75? They've quoted me £200?

Just had my local Renault dealer try to regenerate the particle filter but it didn't work, so they tell me it needs replaced at a cost of over £1000. Anyone else come accross this?

Just Google "fap removal" and I think it will solve your problem by having the fap removed and cheaper than a £1,000 quoted by renault plus it solves having the problem in the future as it is a pita

Providing it is done professionallythen there wont be a problem with any future MOt, if you do a search on the forum some members have had it done.

My scenic 1.9dci had a new particle filter a few months ago, the mechanic said that the sensor threads were damaged when trying to remove so had to do a small weld tac to hold in place. Ran well for a while but clear particle filter warning is back, back to garage when i get time
