[clio 197]

I'm having a problem with my Clio 197. The "battery Low" warning keeps displaying. Having taken it to a garage, the alternator has been changed, the battery has been changed and now the power regulator (i think it's called a ucp or something?) has been changed, nothing has worked. The battery only charges when the revs are over 1500rpm, lower than that it just won't charge. I'm getting seriously worried that the costs of repair are escalating and the fault still hasn't been found. Has anybody experienced anything like this or can anybody offer a solution or advice?

Under a certain speed the coils in the alternator coils only become excited when the have a sufficient voltage supply but will self-excite when they reach a certain engine speed. This seems to be what is happening in your situation.

For whatever reason it would appear the alternator is not performing correctly.

One member of the forum had a similar problem recently and changing the alternator fixed the problem.

Edit:- A poor earth to the alternator can cause similar problems.

the load sensing wire (bss line) can cause this fault if its poor connection/corroded.
also some upc boards need the alternator rating configured , maybe its wrong ?
