Another minor prob to resolve with my clio.

When i engage a gear and bring the clutch up, i find that the gearstick will move forward and back with the weight of the engine.

I assumed first of all that it was an engine mounting. I changed the lower stabliser mounting today, renault gave me a different looking one but has the same length etc. and it fitted, i guess its a redesigned part. Anyway, its a bit better but hasnt cured the problem.

The linkage seems a bit wobbly under there but i guess it would have to have a bit of play in it. Is there a way of checking if linkage is ok?

Im a bit of a semi novice, feels odd to have just changed an engine mounting and then ask if my linkage is dodgy. We all learn by doing tho :)

It is possible that all clios are a bit like this, in which case, would a polyurethane mounting be more successful??

Hi F8, Did you check the mountings where the gear change mechanism connects to the floor - around th ebase of the gear lever.:)
