Check the fuse! If you put the car on charge you may have blown the 5amp fuse. Its the fuse for the earth terminal sensor. They can also be a 7.5amp fuse.

Sorry I am a bit late to this little party .......................... and may have misunderstood the info

You seem to have a lot of experience with this animal and I dont so .............

If a battery charger can blow that 5A fuse, can you explain the mechanism involved to achieve/cause that?

The question I have is that the same "earth terminal sensor" mentioned surely must also be involved when the alternator is pushing around 90Amp plus as opposed to a typical "good" charger only managing around 25Amp?

Where is my logic failing me?
