Hi guys,

Basically I have a clio 1.5dci non aircon on an 03 plate, and the idler pulley is squeeking alot at the moment and may need replacing, looking at the haynes manual it doesnt seem to give much info about how to take it out to put a new one in, is it a simple enough job to do/ does it need any specialist tools?

Also does anyone know if i can just simply put some oil or sort of chain lube around the axle it sits on to stop the squeek? and or what are the implications if it stops moving?

Whyen it starts to squeak only option is replacement as it's likely to fail, result = snapped cambelt, result means.....you get the picture

when looking for new parts is the idler pulley the same as a tensioner? if so is it a simple case of taking out the old and putting the new in or does the whole cam belt/aux belt have to come off in order to replace the part?

Yes, you do need to strip the belts off and it's highly recommended if not essential to replace them.

i had the belts all changed with water bottle etc about 7-8k miles ago would i still need new ones do you think?

It's up to you if you trust the belts, but for the cost?
