As per title, what would happen to a seat belt to stop it winding itself back up?

As you would expect I have checked the belt is not twisted. Do the mechanisms generally fail? Expensive?

I don't know if its a common problem, but I would start by checking the operation with the seat folded (to see if anything is impairing its retraction), then analyse the reel mechanism itself - possibly something has fallen inside causing it to jam up or the spring has been overstretched.

I wouldn't believe the mechanisms to be expensive (they can be bought from salvage yards - remember, its the belts themselves & the pre-tensioners which would be directly involved in an impact - the inertia reel itself just locks into place.

Hope some of this helps.

Paul:)

cheers for the pointers...

Half the problem is getting the interior trim off to get access to the belt reel!
