Any suggestions please? My stepson has an 06 plate Clio Campus 1.2. Last week it developed a fault: when turning sharp right at speed (not excessive) or at roundabout when he steered back to the left the steering didn't respond immediately creating a feeling of lack of control until it kicked in. He called the AA, patrolman did short test drive very slowly and didn't experience problem. He only found broken steering gaiter And advised to get garage to check steering rack. Advised to drive carefully if confident. He wasn't but needed to finish work shift. Drove 20 miles and it was worse! Had it taken to garage today, they did 3 test drives but couldn't detect any symptom. No warning lights on dash and no codes on diagnostics. Various mechanics & Renault specialists have suggested different things but nothing definite. Garage are going to change gaiter and inspect rack and do tracking. Because it's gone away I wonder if the recent wet weather caused damp to get into electrics and now it's drying out. Also been suggested rubber from gaiter or other debris got stuck in rack & now fallen out. Stepson (and us) very worried for him to drive it again if they can't find any definite cause. Has anyone experienced this please and/or can offer any advice or reassurance?

I think you have done all you can at the moment and in many cases like this where a fault is not obviously apparent you just have to wait until it rears its ugly head again and hope that it will be more apparent with what it actually is when it happens again..fingers crossed for you on this one.馃

Thanks Phil. just worried that if it happens again it will be worse & unsafe.

(Thanks MOD for moving it to correct place)

Yes I do understand where your coming from on the safety aspect..tell him to stay alert when he is driving and should anything happen and doesn't feel right pull over and dont drive it..call breakdown to get it moved home..
