As the hot weather is upon us and there appears to be sunroof problems cropping up, a quick "how to" for info.

Obviously check the simple things first, fuses, relays, switch etc. If this does not help the following may:

Remove the Roof console

On early models pop out the light, IR reciever and sunroof panels. There are 2 torxc screws at the front of the housing and one at the rear, remove and take out housing. You now have access to the motor and the arial etc.

On newer models remove the courtesy light using a small screwdriver and the console is secured to the headlining by 4 clips and 2 brackets.

Once the motor is exposed there is a 4mm allen key for manual opening and closing. (see pic)

Adjusting the Zero Point

if the sunroof is not opening or closing correctly the "zero point" may need resetting.

first remove the moving panel, open sunroof to reach mounting bolts, remove the bolts and release the front of the moving panel from the drive bars, pull panel forward to release pads from guide rails and remove panel.

Next manually move the motor using a 4mm hex key to move the carriages at the rear of the sunroof to the indexing holes. (pic)

Fit a 3mm drill into the aligned holes to immobilize the drive bar "Zero Point" position.

On the motor remove the mounting bolts and reposition the cam in relation to the switch, use a 4mm hex to adjust if needed. Refit motor and operate the moving panel through a complete cycle.

I will try to add more photos if needed and also a "how to" remove the cassette.

Hope this helps.

Chris,

You state check the fuse, can you tell me what symbol represents the fuse?

Cheers
Richard
The fuse location will vary dependent on model, year etc. The walkthrough is based on a Clio 2 so some things may be different for Lags etc. As for the fuse it should be marked on the diag on the fusebox cover.

Hi aseinai, did you manage to fix your sunroof, i open my today and now wont close properly, it seems to me that the right runner will open the sunroof but when it comes to closing it doesn't engage thus leaving me with a wonkey sunroof. Is this a clip that needs to be reposition. any help in this matter would be appreciated

thanks

want some pics?

underneath (above?) the headlining - from the back

a zig-zag of mastic

and just some double sided stick above the screen (yes it was raining!)

I tried cutting the mastic with wire (bike brake cable proved sufficiently strong but very slow) but I gave in and attacked it with an 18" steel rule - with no rips or tears in the headlining! The mastic is the black stuff stuck to the inside of the roof in the a shape similar to an M.
Before refitting the cassette - which incidentally I couldn't fix but did manage to 'fix' it closed - I did apply a generous helping of silicone sealant to the underside to aid the seal.
Cassette is held in by a dozen or so bolts - see elsewhere in this thread for details.

a removed cassette without glass, or motor, and after my attempt to repair it:

I silicone sealed the headlining back to the roof (following the mastic)

I had the same problem, it seems that there is a thin 2 or 3 cm long metal block towards the front of the roof mechansim that is connected to the part of the mechanism that pulls the rear down (a long thin metal strip runs from front to back connecting this block to the runner mech at the back) this block seems badly designed and had broken on both sides in my daughters Clio rendering the rear lift/drop mechanism useless (ie it wouldn't close) - I had to removed the sunroof and drill two holes in the rear of the cassette so I could push the rear runners forward and close the roof permanantly.
Now looking out for a replacement secondhand sunroof. Garage wanted £700 to replace it (she paid £1000 for the car!)

front sunroof 1999 scenic with twin sunroofs

hi. just got home its 10pm and the front sunroof wont close, the rear one is working okay, just the front one refuses to close, its in the fully open position., any ideas, i will have to look at it in the morning, ive covered it with a plastic sheet for tonight, according to my Haynes manual its fuse is F22, but thats not blown, i will need to to get it sorted as my car shed is full of furniture at the moment, so i dont want rain to enter it, well i got around to looking at this, i removed the passenger side reading light from the roof console, and that exposed the motor, with a a hex bolt where i put my 4mm allen key and manually wound the front sunroof back to the closed position, that freed it up and i greased the tracks with some white lithium grease, couple of squirts of CRC down the cables and all is working, thanks to this site, a great help

I've got exactly the same problem on the front sunroof of my Scenic - does anyone know how to repair it, or will I end up buying a whole new unit?

cheers

I was cosidering doing this myself on my laguna but browsing through the other posts I found a reset routine for a grand scenic that worked on my Laguna 2. Hope everyone thats temted to follow this awsome photo guide tries the reset first to save time and money.
To recap on that one:
switch to full tilt on control knob. Press and hold for 10 seconds. Turn control knob to full slide Press and hold for 10 seconds. Switch back to closed position.
Job done!
(try the positions the other way round if it don't work first time!)
Fixed mine and the dealer knocked £50 off the price cos it wasn't working!

Hi guys,

just registered for this forum hoping to get an aswer to my questions. The first one: are the sunroofs of a Scenic 2 and Grande Scenic 2 identical in length and width? The second one: where is the motor of the electrical sunroof placed? Is it at the end, almost above the trunk area or is it in the front above the windshield?
Because of a heavy storm the sunroof of my Scenic 2 got crashed and I could now replace the entire roof with an electrical sunroof from a Grand Scenic 2. For this though I have to be 100% sure that it fits.
Thanks for any helpful thaughts

Cristian
