Renault Espace iv, been told by dealer that box that controls the electric hand brake needs replaced. Service light comes on every time I start the car, no hand brake either with engine or manual operation.
The cost is €420 for the control box, is this correct???

tis a hard one this to be fair, to us to help with.
Main agents just diagnose and condemn for some reason on these Hand brakes..

But it could be anything from the switch faulty, to the motor , to an earth wire, or broken/stuck cables..

Did they supply any Fault codes with the diagnostic.
As regards price. Is that including fitting or?

Tis cheap.
Last time I looked at price of an EPB unit it was over £500.
Plus fitting
Plus Diagnostics to set up.
Dealer prices in UK can easily top 700-800 pounds for the complete job.

But whether it needs a new box, could simply be repaired if it does or whatever, we cannot say.

What I can say is that dealers will not open or try to fix the box.
They regard it as a safety critical item (honest) not just extracting as much from your pocket as possible.
Plus the old equation of cost of a box is not a lot more then the labour cost of time to strip one down, correctly identify fault, fix and test.
