1st post so bear with me

I have a Espace IV and the front coil just commited suicide.
I had a mechanic look at it, after a while trying to find the top 2 bolts (which are NOT IN THE ENGINE BAY!!!) decided to go to renault and had them print out a method statement for the job. (AS THEY HAD NEVER DONE A FRONT ONE EITHER!!)

To get to the top bolts he needed to remove the speaker on the dashboard driver side then remove a pad that in turn released the coil and the new one was fitted.

Just thought i'd post this as the job took 3 1/2 hours in total, most of it trying to locate the illusive bolts, plus it was raining.

If your front coil goes then I hope this helps.

Thanks Anfield. You pointed me in the right direction there. Sadly not before I had removed various other bits :0(
Just as an extra tip, it is the grey triangular panel the speaker sits in that you need out. The technique appears to be to prise it up at the front edge nearest to the windscreen with your fingernails and work your way around.
It doesn't want to move at the rear edge (nearest to the driver) until this is done.
Then as stated, fish out the loose sounproofing pad to expose 2 bolts.
Good luck.

You will also need to undo the top nut from the centre of the shocker.
This is 21 mm and is directly in between the two 13mm top mount bolts under the dash panel that you have already removed as per instructions above

Hello there I have located the bolts ta
ken them out and taken the link bar and the main bolts from the bottom and the shocker still won't drop down. I have noticed 2 x yellow plastic pins I have tried to release these in vein.

Any ideas please???????

Have you removed the 21mm centre nut from between the 2 bolts?
It's a while since I saw this one but the plastic pieces that come up through the suspension turret are usually an arrowhead shape with sides yoyu can squeeze in to release them.

I thought the 21mm nut was to release the spring. Do the yellow arrow like clips release from the top of the dash or under the wheel arch from what I can see they both look like hard work:mad:

I can't remember the clips at all on the one I did but I certainly had to remove the 21mm nut inside the car. If you are worried about releasing the spring tension just undo the nut half way and you should find some vertical play in the strut that wasn't there before. If so there is no spring tension on it and you can safely remove the nut.
Sorry for the late reply, BT decided I didn't need an internet connection this week!

I'd advise on replacing these in pairs. I had one side snap in August this year and the other side snapped last week.

Replacing is fairly simple although the o/s top mount bolts had rusted on mine and were a real struggle to undo as I was in fear of slipping and smashing the screen.

Spring is fairly cheap £22 but the tyre it destroyed isn't (£80).

Makes be wonder how long till the rears snap?

I have now been the victim of a failed front spring and am grateful to the members for this thread which will enable me to pass the directions to the mechanics.

Not nunless you have a coil spring compresser I think. I would leave it to the local garage and bite the bullet. At least you are in Renault land. Good luck.

Thanks for the reply, it's booked in to a local dealer on Tuesday. I was a bit miffed when it snapped but I've calmed down now and it means another 4 days here :)

Also finding it hard to find a new top strut mount and the garage was charging me £200 + the dreaded vat and 3 hrs labour they would not sell. E the part as its a dealer only part grrr. So anyone know best place to get the part with out the remortgage of the house. Cheers lads and ladets lol
