Please help, I have an 1998 Espace and I can't open the tailgate, is there anyway to open it from the inside?
Cheers

On the Espace II, there is a panel that you remove inside the boot.
Remove the platic lining under that, and you can get your hands in and move the rods for the locking thingy.

Mine's like that at the moment - that's why I joined this forum today, looking for how to do it.
Just got mine done, and taken piccies as well, so I'll probably post them on here as well.

Hi not sure about the 1998 but on 2002 there is a panel that comes off for just this scenario if you do have one it will prise open with a flat screw driver and then this gives you access to the locking mechanism i hope this helps all the best

On the mk3 the trim has to be removed but the screws are underneath the locked dooor so I carefully (ho ho) removed one of the narrow vents towards the top of the trim and jammed in a 7cm wide piece of wood (a bed slat) twisting this gave enough clearance to see the lock and the right hand pull rod I could probably have worked out a way of moving the rod but some WD40 sprayed on the look using the red straw thing did the job once the door was open I took the panel off straight away. I took off the LH vent The RH one might have given me better visibility of the lock?
