Does anyone know what causes the 2.2 Petrol Injection engine on a 1993 to tick over at 1400-1500rpm no matter what the engine temperature is.

I'd go for an airleak on the intake somewhere, a dirty throttle body being always open, or maybe if you're lucky the throttle cable adjusted a bit too tight.
