On that random 40°C day we had I went to drive my automatic Renault scenic 2006 (34,531 on the clock) there was a loud thud and it came up CHECK GEARBOX - ELECTRONIC ERROR My Renault mechanic has said its the EVM Solonoid £350 thank you very much. Do you agree it is possibly that, AND why so expensive? Is it a big job? Really appreciate any advice, thanks 😊

Sounds like the famous DP0 fault again.
Is it a petrol engine or diesel?
Is the gearbox a 4-speed fluid-torque-converter fully automatic?
If yes, then it may be the EVM solenoid, but it could be something else. If your mechanic can guarantee that will fix it then £350 is actually not too bad for that, assuming it includes the labour and everything. (The job is several hours, it needs transmission oil and the valve itself is about £50.)
