I have just had a quote from my local renault dealership for a large amount of work as a result of my annual service which has come to £1000. Looking at the bill the majority of this is driven by the massive £85 per hour labour charge! I have always treid to go through dealerships so the carhas a full service history but this is now getting insane.

They have quoted for 3 more pieces of work to be done and I am refusing to go through them again becuase of the cost.
Can anyone recommend a garage that isnt quote so expensive but reliable to complete the remaining work? Ideally it would be in the Luton ,Harpenden area but I can get to Nottingham if needs be.

Hi Em

I'd suggest you sift your way through (or better still use the search facility) on this thread http://www.renaultforums.co.uk/general-forum/3819-dealer-garage-recommendations.html?highlight=dealers

All main dealers are well known for their extortionate hourly rates. Depending on where you live you may well find someone who specialises in Renaults, but isn't affiliated to them and can therefore keep prices much more reasonable.

Is there any chance you could list what work is required? Maybe someone can advise if you could possibly do some of the work yourself to keep costs down.

Hello and welcome to the forum.:)

A full service history is important when buying or selling a car,but it doesn't have any great bearing wether that is from a main dealer or not.You are paying double the labour rate that most independant garages charge!

Thanks for your help - I ended up calling round a number of renault dealerships and getting quotes for their hourly labour (which was cheaper!) and got the dealership to discount the quote slightly. I have also found another garage that will do the remaining work for 2/3 the price.
Lesson learnt - from now on no more dealerships!
Thanks again

I guess the dealership u r talking about originally is Waters Renault. They are the biggest in south Beds but there is a dealer in Dunstable called Camden Renault who have a poor reputation locally.

Waters Harpenden is being wound down and are poorly equipped to do repairs as the equipment has been transferred to their St. Albans branch. I found this out to my considerable inconvenience since my car failed it's MOT due to the O2 sensor fuel problem. It had to go to St. Albans to get it fixed and then back to Harpenden for the re-test....twice!!. That episode took three days to sort out.

Off the two, Waters is better I guess, but they do like to charge as much as they can. Waters Letchworth are more inclined to be realistic about hourly charges.

I haven't found a good non-dealer Renault specialist around here yet.

Good Luck
