watch out for clutch problems, heater matrix leaks near your feet, tracking, heater controls, egr valve, these are just a few problems that are associated with the espace.

I've got a '99 2.0 petrol grande.
A pretty good bus really, just watch for the irritating airbag warnings.
Though someone has posted how to fix this issue.
Apart from that it starts and goes, not bad.

Hello and Welcome to the Forums.

I would do all the usual checks.

Make sure everything works as what could seem a simple repair can work out very expensive on the Espace, tyres can be pricey. If buying from a dealer make sure you get a very comprehensive warranty, Check all service documents very carefully, Change oil and filters more often than recommended and use a good quality oil, Check out the service costs at your main dealer , Some very good Renault specialists around who are considerably cheaper Buy with care and you should get many years of good service from your Espace .

Lots of info here on the Forums if you do a search.

Any doubts I'm sure our Espace Members would only be to happy to help.

Regards

Ottoman

diesel grand espace

Feel free to look up my posts. They cover the good the bad and the ugly. I have a fibreglass '98 RXE and it is the business. Can do 40+mpg on the open road (at 56mph average) and never less than 33. However, if you want to use that turbocharger you can get 15mpg at 105mph.

Carries a full double bass and four people! Don't break a cambelt (£1000) and don't believe the last owner changed it unless you see AND VERIFY the receipt. The '98 model is the best made Grand Espace and the J8S engine is the best engine.

Hi, i've got a 2003 2.2 dci grand espace. Great car for distance on the motorway, parts from dealers expensive (shop on the net). Only prob i had was the intercooler blowing at 47, 000mls, had it replaced by a non renault garage Part £235 + £200 labour, renault refunded cost of part after a strong letter to them but would not pay the labour because it was done by a non renault dealer. But since then it's been fine. Oh and i can't change the speedo over from mph to kmh (as it says on in the book, or on this site). still trying though if anyone has any other suggestions.
