Hi all,

I'm doing a full service on my car pretty soon, I've got everything I need but the Alternator belt.

I'm having issues finding the one I need, I'm told it's a 6pk1198, which is impossible to find and the other ones that come back for my car don't mention driving an Air Con. pump, just Alternator...

Please help.

Thanks in advance.

Andy.

IS the 6PK for how many ribs on the belt, if yes, its now 5pk
AND you fit the belt on the first rib as you look at the front of the pulley
Renault stopped using 6 ribs, and went to 5 ribs, on the understanding, if the belt failed, less chance of it going inside the timing case

If thats what your issue is then a 5 rib is the one that's fitted now
Thats a 5 rib, so if it fits your engine that will be ok

Problem is I'm not sure what's fitted now, I'm buying the parts for a garage to fit them, I want to know what to buy.. 🙁

Let the garage buy it for you, give them the extra 3 squid
If its wrong they will mess about not you.
If you get it wrong, then its waiting for you to get the correct one

They will ring the factors, give the reg, factors will send two if there is a choice, mechanic fits, garage sends the tother back ..
SO NO warranty on parts here then, just the Labour
YOU are a brave man

Major jobs on cars, garage gets parts, they cannot pull out then should something fail
That goes also for clutch parts..
How much are you going to save on parts,

It's not about the saving money, I just like to make sure that quality parts are used, you have no control what a mechanic uses and they're generally the cheapest they can get from the factors. I'm a bit of a control freak to be honest lol. In this case though I think you're right I'll let them sort the aux belt and just take everything else I've already got, at least I've got a decent cambelt and water pump kit.

Not many garages go on cheap and cheerful now,
Very rare will they use anything other than Gates, or Dayco for belt systems,
Too much of a gamble if it goes t1ts up..
Long gone of the days they did not care..

They try more to keep a customer loyal now than ever before ..
Seems only the main agents have missed out on this ( For now,,,,, they will catch up, they thought giving the car a valet would make customers more loyal )
