Well have you?....

One of the Silverstone alloys on the Lag is buckled thanks to Hertfordshire Council and their crappy roads.

Has anyone ever had a wheel straightened and what are your experiences?

I have a local alloy refurb specialist who claims they can refurb all 4 for £200 including reasonable straightening which seems a steal.

Anyone have any thoughts?

Seems a good price just for the refurbishment alone.

Out of interest, can you post a pic of the buckled wheel?

It looks just like a normal, if grubby, Silverstone alloy.

But when on the car (OSR) it shimmies like crazy. Have had it on a balancing machine and they say it is deformed and it wobbles like crazy.

I see (or rather, we don't):d.

I thought it may have been something you'd spotted yourself.

If its minimal deformation (and if the tyre is holding air, then it is), what I'd be tempted to do is give them the buckled wheel on the proviso that they'll get the rest of the business once that one is repaired & balanced true. (fit the spare in the meantime, whilst they have it).

That way, you are only going to be out of pocket by £200 if they do a good job, and they have plenty of incentive to fulfil that promise.

HTH
