I have just use a tripod tool to remove the old oil filter on a Scenic 1.5 dCi (2006 model). At the end of the process an open end of a black pipe with a diameter of about 1cm came into view. The end had a plastic fitting which looked like it went into another hole. The pipe was clean and empty. One end of the pipe started somewhere well below the oli filter and when the oil filter was removed, the pipe was easily long enough to reach most parts of the alternator and I think normally runs between the oil filter and the engine.

Any idea what the pipe is or where it goes - I might have dislodged it with the tripod as I removed the old oilf filter.

The car appears to run okey (at least when stationary) but I haven't moved it yet.

location of open pipe

I know why I didn't see before - it stands almost upright directly under the main hose from the intercooler to the engine.
My digital camera is out of power but will try to get photo tonight

open pipe

further info.
no movement of air or anything else is noticable in nor out of the pipe when the engine is running.
could it be a venting pipe?
