Hi All
Just posting this for a daughter of a friend who has a warning light displaying that does not appear to be listed in the hand book!!
The spanner is lit + a light that looks like an open box with flames coming out of it.
Has anyone any idea what it means, the car is an 06 Clio

Many thanks
Rob

Hello Rob and welcome to the forum.:)

What engine does the Clio have?

Do you have any means of posting a photo of the light?

Hi
Its a petrol engine and I have no pic but it is basically a 3 sided box with an open top with a fire inside it
it appears on the right hand side of the square panel of lights about 2-3 from the top, if that helps

according to the handbook if the spanner is lit it needs taking to a garage ASAP but we are trying to find out if it is safe to drive before getting to the garage (for all we know it could be in imminent danger of bursting into flames)

Mystery solved!!!!

It appears that this comes on in conjuction with the 'spanner' to show that service is due within 6 weeks, if the service is due by reason of 12 months and not mileage based, IE it will only show on cars due for a service after the appropriate time, having only done a very low milage

My wife's 56 plate Clio has the same warning symbol, which is annoyingly not covered in the handbook. The symbol is actually an oil drip rather than flames(which would be scary!), going in to a container, and as you mentioned is presumably indicating the service interval. The car is again low mileage, under 6k. Now trying to reset it as it's not due for a second service just yet. Did it before but it won't seem to reset, though I'll give it a go again after reading tips in the Forum.

We have a flashing spanner on our Laguna, Renault have said its because our last service was done early, so when the mileage that was required for the service was exceeded the car thought it was overdue and the spanner lit up.

Renault charges £25 to reset it.

Hi Samdoh27 - so it appears the service interval warning wasn't reset at the time of service - was it not serviced by a Renault dealer then. As far as I know the service interval can be reset yourself by scrolling trough the computer read-out and pressing the trip button so it zeros itself - well its does on my Lag II:)

It was last serviced by Renault, but this was before we bought it, before it was due.

I rang them up thinking the history might be dodgy as the light had come on when it'd supposedly been done, the woman at Renault found it on her computer and said it was done a good couple of thousand miles early, and that the computer would trigger itself when it reached the mileage it was due at, and that it would need resetting by their computer, she never mentioned being able to reset it ourselves (BIG surprise there then!!!)

How can I reset it myself cos its driving me crazy!!

ps good call on the faulty earth in my clio, thats exactly what wrong!:)

I think the reset procedure may be in some handbooks - you may need to check. On my Lag I it takes abouts 30 seconds to do the reset. If I could earn a tenner each time I would be well pleased but £25 plus VAT is definitely a rip-off.

Switch on the ignition - do not start the engine - press the button on the end of the right hand stalk repeatedly and it should "scroll" through the trip computer screen.

You will come across the one that shows a spanner in the bottom left corner, this is the "distance (time) to service".

When you have selected the "time to service" screen, press and HOLD the black button (close to the speedo) on the intrument panel. It will start to flash after a few seconds, keep the button pressed until 18000 appears and flashes..
Then release the button before the 18000 stops flashing.

If all goes well that should be it reset:)

No problem Samdoh27 - only too glad to be of assistance.
Just one piece of further advice - it is well accepted in the motor trade that the 18,000 mile service intervals are far too long. I would recommend you change the engine oil and oil filter at least every 9,000 or each year whichever comes first.
Many thanks for the update which all goes to help run a successful forum and happy motoring:)
