Just bought a nice 19 plate 1.5 diesel Kadjar. Any ideas why I cant see a clear oil level on the dipstick? Car on flat drive left overnight etc & yet when I pull the dipstick (its the type attached to the oil fill cap) the oil is smeared between min & max markings not given a clear level indication. Is the tube the dipstick rides in kinked? Thanks

Dunno about that engine but the Common DIL's Picanto does similar.
Trick is to pull it out, wipe it and then stick it back in dry. (Behave you lot)
Seems to give a clear reading then.

Thanx, but have tried all that. I cant help feeling that there is a pipe kink causing the oil to ‘smudge’ up the dipstick.

Just the design of the dipstick.
Its wipe dip, pull back out, and whatever the level is showing thats the level ..
Lots get caught out at first , If between min and max, then half a litre will bring it up, and you will better understand the stupid design then
