Hy Ian,

Thanks for your inputs. Well, this is just a 2nd emergency card so the 7947 should work just fine for that.

When I'm going to program it for the car I'll need to program the new card and the old one again. I'll not loose the proximity sensor for the old one?

What about the new card, it cames precoded to the car. How is that possible? I have to tell the seller some info about my car?

BR
Correct, proximity will be ok. As to new card, you buy a card for your car, that's it, simple..
Just program all keys via OBD2 and all ok

What I dont get is how the cards come from the chinese suppliers already precoded. They have some kind of universal coding or something? Sorry to ask.
Only real chips need PreCoding, fake chips are already set to one type of car, normally Megan/Laguna/Espace.
PreCoding is only for the door opening, it doesn't effect Immo and car starting.
PreCoding writes to the HITAG section of the Chip, it looks like this:

PCF7943
=======
4D 49 4B 52
00 00 4F 4E
A1 01 0F 07
40 00 00 8C
TMCF(P3): 06CE58E2

The Chip (PCF7943/47) has 2 parts, IMMO & HITAG, the IMMO is the car starting data and the HITAG is the remote.
There are other sections but I won't go into it as it'll just confuse things.
The Transponder has 8x4 bits for IMMO and 4x4 bits for HITAG, if you know the data for HITAG you can manually enter the data using ZedBull, but as I previously posted it's not really worth messing with as the cards are cheap enough.

Regards

Just bought a 2006 Megane Scenic as a junker dog transport here in Portugal. Comes with 2 keys, one has a duff transponder circuit, one a duff remote locking circuit.

It's a fair bet it is in fact the keys then. I've looked on YouTube and apparently they are a pain to fix yourself.

I've found a bunch in the UK called key repair who can fix these for £25 each, which is fine, but thanks to Brexit I cannot get stuff reliably to or from the UK. So:

  • Anyone know of a bunch within the EU who specialise in fixing these at a sane price?
  • It's an aged heap for taking my dogs down the tracks. No one will nick it, especially not where I live. Is there any way of permanently disabling all security? Or even leaving the key in it without flattening the battery? I don't mind doing some wiring, I'm OK with car electrics.
  • The transponder "circuit" is just an RFID chip isn't it? How can it not work?

Not quite, recommending a business isn't advertising unless it's your business. You can do it here, from personal experience, within reason. Keyrepair is often mentioned here. OP, the problem now is that you need a C22 customs form both ways. You could ask keyrepair if they can deal with that and send by insured post. I can see the reluctance though.

Got told off for doing just that in a previous post tho, so it seems the forum takes a different view.
Was just telling someone that the card was cheaper else ware and got a right ticking off...

Ok, thanks.

Before I respond individually, how does this work anyway? I assumed it was an unpowered RFID tag and if it's dead or the card doesn't recognise it, game over. But now I see there is a coil... Does the chip sit in the coil and the coil is likely dead?

Or to put it another way, do I buy a card, cut the original open, take out the chip, insert in the new card and we are off?

I'd still like to defeat the whole thing. I'd like to replace it with a discrete switch, but I suspect the ECU reads the transponder code, so I'm stuck with it. I have one working card, the car is for taking my dogs into the mountains, nobody will nick it, when I took the old car up I left the key in in case anyone wanted to move it! Now I have an unwelcome security device which is one day bound to strand me ten miles up a mountain track :-(

I've done this in the past and yes, it works. Just buy a 2nd hand keycard, swap the PCF and that's it, you'll have an working key again.

But before that just check first if the coil is well soldered to the pcb, usually those break away from the contact pad, it's a lot easier. If that doesnt work go for the previous solution, swap the PCF.

good luck

We have a Renault Grand Espace 07 plate. I went to start the car this morning and put the keycard in the slot and nothing happened, no error message, nada. I removed the key card and got the message 'Please insert card and press Start'. I tried our second key card but the same thing happened. Both cards have worked up until now.

I wiggled the key about and found that if I raised it a fraction and pressed it either towards the front or back of the slot, it would register and I was able to start the car. I am working on the principle that it is the reader rather than the cards themselves. Any quick fix suggestions?

The slot is just in front of the gear stick rather than next to the radio. Are they easy to replace? If so, is there a youtube video out there that shows how to remove the reader from the casing?
Sorry for asking so many questions on here, but I am rushed of my feet at the moment due to having kids at home and caring for my demented aunt, which means I don't have time to do a thorough internet search.

Thanks for any advice

Sounds like the reader, it's more common to be the card but readers do fail.
Think it's not coded on an 07 so just replace the reader with a second hand unit

If both cards fail to work (I assume central locking still works) I agree that points to the reader. Try the connectors first.

I am after a spare remote key for a 2002 Avantime 2.0T Dynamique. Have one fully working key and know you can get a fob, blade, transponder but no remote function fairly easily still for £30. Renault say they can no longer supply a remote key. Does any one know where I can get a new one? or as I have some second hand remote keys whether anyone can reprogram a used key or rechip so it can be programmed? Thanks in advance.

Hi All.
I have a Renault Grand Scenic 3 1.9 2012. Its been running well,

I took family to the Beach yesterday afternoon and I lock the Car double locked( dead locked)Like I always do, Later on when we wanted to leave. The Keyless entry would not work. (Key Fob battery needed to be replace) I tried to open with the button on Card key Fob but nothing. I then opened the car with the emergence key. Climb over to the Drivers side put the card key in. Nothing it would not start. Tried to open drivers door nothing, windows nothing. Inside central locking did not work.
I went and got a new Fob battery tried that nothing tried a second new battery nothing. Had to have car towed home last night R1500. Got home at 11.30pm. What a way to spend my birthday.

I took the Car battery out last night. Charged it last night and tried again this morning. Nothing just the alarm screaming, can not turn it off.
I open the Card key Fob and the wire coil that has 3 connection was completely loos. I had then re soldered.
Taped it up. Not glued yet encase I have to open again.
Tried again can not get alarm to switch off or doors to open. Inside central locking also not working.
Pressed the button on Fob to switch lights on nothing.
I Can lock the car from the little black know on drivers handle but will not open with hand by sensor

Can Anyone help. Need to get lids to school tomorrow, Any Ideas please.

Thanks Ian
