Hi Guys. Lately i have been getting a strange noise when steering and also the steering gets progressively harder to turn.

When i top up the P/S fluid its fine and the noise is barely audible.

The only thing is that i have to top up the fluid every 3-4 weeks!!! :steam:

Could this be just a sign i need new pipes to the pump or is it a full pump i need????

The fact that you have to top up every few weeks points to a leak somewhere in the system - either at the resovoir, pump, pipes or steering rack. You'll need to have a close look. Pumps and pipes are relatively cheap to fix but steering racks can be expensive. Time to get your hands dirty I'm afraid.:)

Power steering spares tend to be quite specialised and mostly Renault spares only - but it wouldn't cost anythiing to ask your local friendly motor factor - if he/she cant supply they may know someone who does. The makers of power steering equipment tend to specialse in other fields. A few years back I had difficulty sourcing pipes for a vauxhall which was fitted with a "Zedpro" made system - I found a local agent and he was able to help - he was able to make the pipes at much lower cost too. I asked him he did much car work and he said most of his work was supplying and repairing tail-lifts for commercial vehicles. No every time I sit behind a truck in traffic I see their name on a least every other truck. Beware buying replacements from a scrapper.
