hi all
now finally getting the time and weather,i decided to explore whats what and wheres where in my lagII engine bay.the first thing i noticed upon removall of the battery cover, was the air intake pipe.it just stopped(or started) between the battery and the inner wing.is this right or am i missing a peice?i mean before that is the headlight and no daylight whatsoever so where does it draw the cool air from.if this is the design of the car then would i benefit from making an extension hose to a more open part of the car i.e the grill.im no boy racer but if i was to gain more power from such a small mod then wahey.

regards
nigel

You are not missing a piece, that's how there fitted, let us know if you feel any difference if you fit an extension into cooler air.

Hi There,

davesss is right that is how they are fitted. They draw cool air in from behind the passanger headlight. Idea is to draw the air from as far away from the engine as possible to prevent heat soak. I know it isn't getting blasted directly with air as the headlight is in the way, but there is plenty of cool air in that region from under the car, from the bumper and any other little gaps around the headlight. You probably won't notice any gains if you re channel the pipe as the standard fit paper air filter restricts alot of air flow. Also the standard layout of the air intake is prone to alot of heat soak due to it's layout. If you notice there is a resonator directly next to the head (big black box on the right hand side of the engine) this tends to get quite hot and as a result heats up the air in it, because of all this it makes direct replacement K&N panel filters pointless too as for the £30 you spend you don't really get much of a gain as all they do is free up a little bit of air flow. If you're really interested in getting a tidy gain from your air intake have a read of a thread I posted in the Clio FAQ, I added to an already existing thread call Induction.
