Afternoon all, my Laguna has just gotten through 11/2 litres of oil in a week, upon inspection there's oil pooling on top of the engine (just under the plastic cover that goes on top and guides the acc cable). Now I'm hoping it's just a perished rocker gasket (Car's done 173500 miles) but should it be terminal (blown rings?) what other Renault engines (petrol) would be a straight (ish) swap? Thanks in advance
Forgot to add that mine is the Renault engine with oil filler on the left

Does the engine build up pressure when you've had it running and you remove the oil filler cap?.It could be that the breather system has blocked up,or it could indeed by engine wear.9 times out of 10,though,it's just a rubber gasket that has gone hard over the years and decides to leak.

Is there oil leaking from any where else at all?.

Cheers, no pressure when cap taken off, no leaks elsewhere, here's hoping to a new gasket then, many thanks
