Has anybody experienced the problem I'm having on my Laguna Tourer? Only on cold morning starts does a howl appear to come from the dash area. It begins within a minute of start up and continues for about 5 miles of driving, then disappears until the next cold start. It doesn't seem to be related to engine speed but does seem to be temperature sensitive. If I stop the engine, the noise stops in a way reminiscent of air escaping form a valve and on restarting will appear again. My mechanic is mystified - can anyone help please?

Welcome. Sorry can't say I have heard that before.
It may be something to do with the air filter/housing - these can cause resonance sounds coming through the dash, usually when engine is under load though. It is usually cured by fitting a selftapper to screw the housing to the pipe more securely.
If this is slightly loose, when cold the plastic will have contracted slightly, causing a small gap to allow air in/out causing a whistle. When the car warms up, the plastic warms up, it expands and seals the gap again.
I may be talking utter [email protected]$ but it may be worth a look.
