Hi just a short tip I found out after breaking the fine wire ring around the ignition barrel, then finding out that this was apparently something to do with the immobilizer as the car wouldnt start:crazy: . Went on loads of forums and tech sites who all said to do this or send ecu off for re-progging etc, got some very good stuff like the knowledge of how to get my emergency code number, so at least i could start the bloody thing, Thanks guys:rofl: Now I was lucky I had just bought an estate to replace my 97 laguna and had stolen the washer cluster off it to service the estate when i knackered the immobilizer ring taking off the upper steering plastics...( it is very easy to damage as it has two fine copper wires which i managed to knock off the unit and snap one! even after careful soldering it wont work again and i assume it has a specific resistance so basically its scrap) But did find out that you can just replace the ring and hey presto the car started again, no more re-proggin every time i had to start it. I did have the ecu and battery dis-connected for the day before i changed the immobilizer ring so wether this helped i dont know, all i do know is that i was lucky enough to have a spare and now have a perfectly serviceable estate, :moonie: mind you now i have a hatchback that wont start without the code so if anyone has one of these nasty little rings with intact wire id be happy to purchase it. hope this info may help others suffering from wrecked ring syndrome.
