Our Laguna (1.6 16v) seems to have an oil leak from the rights side top somewhere. I can't see exactly where the leak is occuring from without dismantling further (takjing out the airbox etc), but the thermostat has a layer of oil on it and so it it coming from higher above.

Is there a common place where these leak oil from (rocker cover gasket?) If so, and if it is the rocker cover gasket, is this DIY-able (done many a Cavalier's before :d ) or will it be the head gasket in which case it obviously will need specialist attention.

Ok, I found the leak during servicing the car today (a nightmare in itself when the bloody spark plug socket broke inside the plug well but any how!) - it's leaking from the two round rubbe bits which I think have something to do with the cam (cam seals?) These are 'new' though, as I bought them when I had the cambelt done (renault said I would need to fit new ones).

Anyways, would these have been incorrectly fitted or do these simply not last well? In either case, do I replace (how???) or live with it - can't see it being dangerous as its on the opposite side to the cambelt.

We have a 1.8RT Sport laguna as well as the diesel, and this has leaked oil from the area you say since about 32000 miles. I've just lived with it, now on 123000 miles. Not the best way, and you do need to top up with oil more than you would otherwise, but it's not done the car any harm, and its still going strong. (we had the rubber seals replaced as well, to no effect)
