its the little black metal box housing thecu im told. ive read somewhere you need a rivit to turn some kind of wheel but damned if i can see any wheel let alone spin it. its also that little black metal box whcih cuts through wires causing loads of running probs back and top of engineKriss, little more information and perhaps a wee piccy of the offending article may help us help you better! After all we don't want you removing something if someone has assumed you are talking about a completely different part
ive now found out how to remove the top of it by unwinding a little brass wheel only problem is ive been unwinding that little brass wheel now for 1 hour and nothings happening so gues somewhere along the line its stuck inside and wont release the . i havnt a clue about clio,s but ive heard so much about this damn box i thought prevention is better than cure. so when i here people saying this box cut through wires do they meen where the wires enter the box only as if so i can sort this without removing the box, many thanks for your help and advice, chris. If it's the cover for the ECU my advice would be to leave it well alone as this is what protects your ECU from water and debris! If you remove it and get water in there you'll be looking at having a new ECU which will not be cheap [unless you're very lucky]!
I should imagine it shouldn't be flapping about for the reasons I have just described! I'd advise trying to secure it rather than remove it and perhaps try and protect the wires which may easily be chafed by the box itself! perhaps some electrical tape, plastic wire protection etc
I couldn't tell you myself how to remove it if indeed you really feel you need to as I've not had the pleasure of owning a Clio myself
many thanks scatz for all your help, very much apreciated, atvb, chris. The fact that you mention the box moves would indicate to me that's where the problem lies with regard to chafing or cutting through wires! Check around all edges of the box and ensure you get some kind of permanent protection for the wires that run in there. Sorry I can't be more specific but without seeing it in front of me it's all I can advise
hi pat, have turned that damn wheel so much ive worn it but still that lid wont come off so any other ideas would be gratefull for like a stick of dynamite maybe lol, atvb, chrisHave a look at this thread

You need to stick the Right-Angled pick (or Allen Key) into the hole at the bottom and 'pull' it to the top (turning the wheel). You need to keep repeating this, turning the wheel until the catch is completely free. This will take quite a while -maybe 15 minutes!
The wheel maybe stiff to move at first but will loosen.
Once free, the lid should lift off.
hi pat, yes i did read and i followed those instructions to the letter. i turned that damn wheel for an hour solid and it still did not release that catch. if i turn that wheel anymore ill feel like a hamster. dont know what the prob is as no way will that catch release.Did you read the bit where you have to put something in the little hole while you turn it?
