I went to replace my timing belt on my 2006 1.6 scenic last week but after much dismantling gave up as I couldnt lock the crankshaft and undo the pulley bolt single handed, I will attempt again shortly with an assistant. I want to lock the crankshaft using the "screwdriver against the flywheel" method as this worked for me before on my old mark 1 scenic however on the mark 2 the TDC sensor hole is not in view and seems extremely difficult to use this method. I do not trust the "put in gear and press brakes method". Can anyone offer any advice on this please. ( I have the camshaft locking tools and pin)

Make sure it's a big screw driver that fits nicely in between the flywheel teeth and you will be okay. I had to do the same after removing the TDC sensor from the top of the bell housing on a 1.4 K4J last week which is almost identical to your 1.6 K4M

Or you can get a proper tool to lock the flywheel

I have seen Peugeot / Citroen ones which are much cheaper would think there is a chance the shoud fit a Renault too?
