I have a Renault 2004 Clio Classic Tribox 1.4 16v automatic. When I am stopped at lights etc is it a good idea (ie better for the gearbox) or not to manually shift from drive into neutral?
I do this with my auto but that may be force of habit. It should be ok to stop and hold on footbrake, but to me it seems sensible to nudge it into neutral.
The temprature of the gearbox fluid always rises if you leave it in drive when stationary, doesn't do any harm if only for a short time but I always used to put it in neutral when I had an auto if stopped over 20-30 seconds.
