Hi, maybe someone can help me with this issue. I wanted to replace the map reading lights and centre dome lights to led , and went to am authorised seller and told him to replace them for me. When he installed the led on the centre dome light it did not light and then noticed that even the map reading lights started not working. Before everything was working, now I noticed that the map reading lights are on very dim and if I try to switch the centre dome light . Also before these lights used to come on when unlocking the car, removing the key card and opening the doors now only the door lights come on when opening the doors. Can someone tell me or guide me what to do please as its frustrates me with them not working.
Thanks in advance

Sam

General note on replacing normal incandescent bulbs with led luminaries in vehicles ............ especially where a dim feature is involved........

Chances are good its not going to work properly or at all - incandescent bulbs' control systems often monitor current and LED luminaries consume only a fraction of that value ...............the dimming feature on an incandescent brightness controller is a current controller in order to get a nice smooth dimming effect with a very wide current value variation.

No reason why the original bulbs back in the original sockets now shouldn't work ................. possible they broke/disturbed an earth in the map reading light assembly?

Open door and remove the bulb from the socket - measure voltage on the 2 contacts of the bulbs socket still connected to the car - one should be 12V (center) and one 0V

The ones that come on when you open the door are called courtesy lights..

Drop the dome down, to get at the lights..

See how many wires are going to the dome

Would think there is 3, two powers , one Earth, but just check

LED bulbs only work when installed one way unlike ordinary bulbs that will work both. It’s possible your “specialist “ didn’t realise this and simply got lucky with the reading lights. As for your centre light not coming on, are you positive your rocker switch is in the central position, it’s a 3 way switch with off, door activated and fully on.
Finally now you’ve reinstalled the original bulbs it’s going to look really dim after led lights. I’ve got a grand scenic 3 and had led bulbs inside for about 4 years and had no problems apart from one flickering bulb that was easily changed. If I had to return to the original bulbs it would be super dim at night, when I first put the LED bulbs in the brightness was unbelievable. I couldn’t go back to original bulbs in mine.

Re checked the fuses and all seems ok, checked the wires on the dome and map reading lights there's no voltage coming on, I'm thinking if there's an interior lighting controller and.where its located

no voltage at all, or very low voltage, have you used some other Earth to check , other than the Earth on the light unit

I measured if there's as 12v supply coming on the system as I was told further up and on the light units where there are the ribbon( 3wires- 2 power and 1 earth ) nothing is coming up on the multimetre thats why I.asked if there could be a controller or something as its mysterious not lightinging up.automatically as it used to do.before

No.voltage on the wires (ribbon) which is supposed to power the lights. What is strange is that when I start the engine and flick the switch to the on position on the map reading lights the passenger and driver side come.on very dimm but the ctr bulb of the map reading lights doesn't come on, the centre ceiling light comes on . That's why im thinking that it could be a controller problem
