Hi
Im new to this forum so id like to say "hi" to everyone.
My partner has a megane 1.4 8v 1999 model which is developing a tappety noise and i believe it is slack valve clearances.
Do these engines use hydraulic or manual adjustding valve systems?
If its manual, are they set up using different thickness shims ,or are they adjusted with screw thread adjusters?
Does anyone know the recommended valve clearances for the inlet and outlet valve trains please?
Hope someone can help me out
Thanks

Hello and welcome to the forum.:)

The 8 valve engines do have adjustable valve clearances. They should be....

Inlet 0.10-0.15mm

Exhaust 0.25-0.30mm

(with a cold engine)

I don't think their shimmed,but I'm not 100% sure about that.

It might also be a good idea to change the oil and filter at the same time.Use some good quality 5w40 fully synthetic or 10w40 semi synthetic oil:)
