Hi All,

I have a 2008 Megane VVT auto hatchback that has done 14600 miles from new. When starting first thing in the morning it gets to third gear then makes a thump and displays check gearbox on the dashboard and will not go into 4th gear.

If you stop the car and restart it it works initially but then comes back again, this can happen between 4-6 times until it has warmed up then everything is fine. The garage (not main dealer) have checked it on their computer and have said the ECU shows no error code so are stumped as to what it may be. I am concerned that I may cause damage if I continue driving it can anyone give a pointer as to what the problem is please?

Hello Steve,

without actually driving your car and experiencing the fault for myself I cannot give a 100% accurate diagnosis as to what the fault is, but based on the information you have given with the car jolting into 3rd gear and staying in 3rd which is the gearbox going into limp home / safety mode to protect the gearbox from further damage. When you switch off the engine and then restart the engine the fault clears for a short while. The fault to me sounds like either the E.V.M solonoid or a pressure sensor fault, both of these are common failures with the 4 speed DPO torque converter automatic gearbox which your Megane has. My advice to you would be to give RCS a ring and explain about the fault. Even though the car is out of warranty, its only just and nevertheless a car with such low mileage should not have any mojor faults such as the gearbox fault you have. Hopefully they should pay for the full cost of repairs or at least 70%. Failing that take your car to an automatic transmission specialist. Hello Haree. I wanted to know whether the problem is back now or are you still happy with your gearbox. I had the same problem with my ClioIII and had the solenoid replaced and oil changed. All the problems were fixed. Now 3-4 months later I am having the same problem.

Can anyone advise?

hi there is there anyone that can help me.i have 2007 megane 1.6 auto and looking at the other messages i am havin same problem.i have been quoted 850 plus vat which seems to be a bit high.there is no one round my area who fixes auto apart from the dealership.can some please help i am in the s****horpe area

@Haree. Apologies for that Haree. Does the ClioIII 2006 model have the same DPO auto gearbox you speak off in your earlier post?

I had the solenoids and transmission fluid replaced and am experiencing the same problem 5 months later. This leaves me with the need to try changing the pressure sensor like you mentioned. As this is a problem that only occurs in the morning I am failing to understand how the pressure sensor can affect the operation....if it was a temperature sensor problem it would make sense. Please elaborate if you can.
