just throwing this out there..
start the engine, note RPM switch off
take the air filter out
refit cover, restart the engine, note RPM
if rpm is smoother then check coolant temp sensor tip , see if its not collected crud and not sending a clear signal quick enough to the ecu to adjust fuel to air ratio
Sounds very much like your fuel to air ratio is wrong as you accelerate

Thanks both. Will pull the air filter out later and see what happens.

Off now in search of a deep 14 mm socket for the plugs.

Tried removing the air filter this afternoon and running it without, but there wasn't any appreciable difference. Idles at something like 800 - 850 rpm with or without the filter. The only thing that might have been different was a tendency for the revs to hang when I revved it up.

Thanks for the suggestion though. Worth a try.

Reviews on others I viewed, spoke of the rubber insert coming out of the socket and being left on the plug.
Never had one yet..but have had a socket pull off an extension and get stuck on a plug when trying to remove it when tightening the sparky..

Hello again... just thought that I should post what the problem was with the Clio and it's misfire.

And I would be the first to admit that it wasn't my first guess.
