I have been told that a spanner warning light and a "check airbag" instruction is due to a seatbelt pretensioner sensor failure. Is this something I can fix myself or must it go to a Renault garage and what would be the approx cost?

Before you start paying someone to investigate you could try looking at the electrical connections under the front seats. Very common problem is that things put underneath the seats knock the connections out etc.
