hi guys ; i have just came back from a short journey about 12 miles , (mothers day) i have a renault scenic 1.6 sport alize and was coming down the motorway when all of a sudden the car started making a noise like a humming sound , but soon as i pressed the brake it stopped , any idea,s what it could be and is it serious , the bloke i had the car off said it needs a service ,could this be the reason i only normaly travel short distances , but i dont want wreck my car by driving it like this ,,,,,,,,, oh sorry its on a 1999 plate,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, any advice very much appreciated,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, thanks

Could possibly be a wheel bearing that has gone. The noise should be sounding from one wheel if it is that.

Unlikely a service will stop the noise but check timing belt tension and all suspension bushes.
