Hi. I have just purchased a 2003 laguna 1.9dci which has a whining noise when in 3rd and 4th gear. All the other gears are ok, and the gear change is normal. Anyone else had this problem and know of a cure.

Hi Andrew - welcome to the forum.

A whining gearbox is never a good sign I'm afraid.

Is it the 5-speed or 6 -speed box?

Hi. Its a 6 soeed gearbox and it is a whining grinding sort of noise if that makes sense. The kind of noise you get when a wheel bearing starts to go. Thanks. Andy

Sounds like either an internal bearing has failed or a synchro hub may be on the way out.

Has the gear-change linkage and oil level been checked?
