Hi all,
I really hope you can help with a problem i've come up against after returning from my travels.
I've been away for 4 months travelling and have just tried to start my 1.2 Clio (on a 51 plate).
I've put a new battery on it but all that happens when i turn the key is well, basically nothing!! No clicks......nothing. If i bypass the ignition system by putting a lead from the positive side of the battery to the solonoid, it fires up, but on the key, nothing.
If i disconnect the trigger wire from the solonoid and check the voltage, it reads 12.3v. But, if i connect it to the solonoid and turn the key, it reads zero.
I don't understand how it'll start using a cable to the battery.
Can anyone help me please?

check the relays in the compartment near the battery, the starter relay is normally the centre one,

Thanks for the advice and excuse my ignorance, but how do i check the relay is working ok?? Thanks. Rog

They normally just get corroded and just moving them in a out a couple of times will ensure contact, you could just swap them around and clean them with contact cleaner or wd40
