i throw myself on everyones knowledge

we have an R reg 1.6 scenic that soon after starting smells of petrol fumes and once warmed up has trouble maintaining idle.

i can only guess that the 2 are related but dont know where to begin.

i have tightened all the doors and made sure all the windows are firmly shut and that the blowers are off so that the smell isnt being drawn into the cab yet the pong persists.

after a few minutes of driving when sitting at idle it struggles to manage 600rpm and has on occassion given up half way round a corner being driven.

help p-u-r-l-e-a-s-e

will check tomorrow, surely a leak in the fuel line would be really noticeable when the pump kicks in, have not noticed a loss of fuel.

is an idle valve easy to service/fix/replace, oh and where the heck would it be?

Check out the Exhaust manifold. I am having major probs with my 1.6 s reg Scenic. I noticed the same smell and looked under the bonnet. I removed the heat shield and spotted a large crack in the exhaust manifold!!. this apparantly is a common fault with renaults. I have now swapped it. the smell has stopped but the car still runs badly. I have also swapped the coils and sparkplugs. Checking the timing is my next mission.
