The later oil filters are the cartridge insert type which have a plastic end removal cap. Using a chain or clamp type filter removal tool can break the cap and it ain't a cheap replacement.

There is a special cup type tool especially for the job.:)

MTFU and use your hand with a rubber glove on.

or bang a screw driver through it.
If you read the original post you'll see it's a 2.0 Dci engine which doesn't have a metal spin-off type filter. It has the paper cartridge insert type whereby you have to screw off the plastic end cap to gain access.

There are two variations in this type of filter. One has a 27mm (if I remember correctly) hex end and the other requires a metal cup tool which goes over the fluted end.

This type of filter is becoming more common and is used on a wide range of makes such as Fords, Nissan, Vauxhall, Mercs, etc, etc, etc,:)
