hi, im new on here, hope you can help???
ive just bought a clio 1.6 rxe and discovered oil froth in the expansion bottle but nothing on the dip or oil cap??????? could it just be that the bird i got it from put oil in the wrong hole or is the head gasket the issue? also, it seems to lack power, especially uphill, the fuel tank was empty when i got it, could it be the fuel filter? any help would be great, thanks

When the engine is running is there any sign of bubbles in the expansion tank?

If you have a leak from the cylinder in to the water jacket, you will get a film of oil in the water in the expansion tank, but not into the oil system as water isn't entering it.

You will need to do a commpression test.

Are the rubber water pipes particularly hard when the engine is running?

Well all you can do then is flush the system and see if it returns.

If it does then it could be the oil cooler leaking, but a leak of oil into the water and not water into the oil isn't that incomprihensible, simply because the oil is thicker so could keep the water out, however the water is under higher pressure, it's never simple eh.

Have you done a pressure test on the cooling system to check for leaks? (You need to remove the thermostat when you do it)
