i removed the sump tonight, and removed the oil pump. I was surprised to be able to rotate the oil pump chain while the crankshaft did not rotate....? Does this suggest the oil pump chain sprocket has worn?
The chain sprocket on the crankshaft is not keyed and relies on a friction grip of the outer crankshaft retaining bolt. This bolt is a use-once-only fitting and must be renewed each time it is used.
