Before opening brake lines remove reservoir cap and place kling film over the filler and screw the cap back on, what this does is prevent air entering the reservoir and pushing fluid out and if you seal the open pipe no need to buy hose clamps.(y)

Thicker polythene works better because it’s less likely to leak air. Cling film tears easily and can rip when putting the cap on...

This is an old one. It sometimes works, sometimes not......you still need to assume it hasn't and check.

Would be better off, undoing/cutting a pipe and holding the brake pedal down
You can now be certain no fluid will escape
